His original, adventurous sculptures are unusual, and often quite amusing - a hugging couple, a man with a piano, a fisherman … The hallmark of Steve Lohman's work is masterful execution and at the same time elegant simplicity. After all, he makes them from one continuous wire line!
Using one continuous line of steel wire, Steve Lohman creates his innovative, delightful sculptures at his home studio on Martha's Vineyard Island, USA. All the work he does exclusively by hand, and the sizes of his creations range from small "wire sketches" to large scale sculptures. Influenced by the line drawings of Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, Lochman continues to develop and push forward a style of wire sculpture that is uniquely his personal and therefore extraordinarily attractive to museums, galleries and collectors. In addition, Lohman's works can be seen in the city garden.
Steve spends weeks perfecting the three-dimensional potential of a simple wire, unmistakably reproducing life moments in his work. He puts the main emphasis on human figures in their daily life and, with the help of wire bends, he can even set the character of a particular work. For example, the curly curls of the cellist lend a playfulness to the sculpture, while the sharp curvature of the piano lid creates a dramatic effect. The sculpture of a dog pulling on a long leash and dragging the owner behind it perfectly conveys the feeling of movement.
A creative person like Steve should have an equally creative family. His wife is the mosaic artist Jennifer Strechen, whose sister is a successful porcelain maker. And Lochman's aunt Rose Treat is a renowned collage maker.
With twenty years of experience, Steve has long ceased to be a sculpture known only on his island. Now his name is on a par with the names of prominent US wire sculptors.

A man is usually in charge of a box, suitcase, bag, or toolbox in a family. The dresses that Leigh Pennebaker creates are very reminiscent of fashion illustrations in the photographs. But in this case, they would hardly stand out among thousands of their own kind. In fact, the stylish and graceful works of our heroine are sculptures made of rigid barbed wire
